Mother's Day- A Present Odysee

“No gift to your mother can ever equal her gift to you - life” (Unknown Author)

This might very well be true, but we will be damned if we wouldn’t try! With Mother’s Day just around the corner, we don’t all of the sudden remember how much we love and cherish our mothers, because we love them every single day of the year (well, most of us do). No, we feverishly try to come up with a brilliant idea of what to get her this year and remember all the gifts we have given her throughout the years on this special day. There where the compulsory self- made cards, clay ashtrays, breakfast in bed, unpolished but charming poems and flowers, lots of flowers. And whereas lovely mother always politely smiled and thanked us for our hand- crafted gifts or last- minute bought chocolates, we sometimes couldn’t help but feel guilty. Guilty because how do you match the gift of life? With theater tickets? Did your mother out – do you in the gift department for all eternity when she gave birth to you? Maybe the ‘Unknown Author’ was right!
So where do we go from here? Obviously we still will keep trying; however, we should give up on the ‘equal’ idea since nothing is as precious as life, mother wins this round. But we can try to give back! And why not getting our mums some fabulous blinc mascara or even the heated lash curler? Every woman deserves to be treated and look like a queen. And truth is, mummy might have had to put up or still puts up with dirty laundry, fighting siblings, teenage tantrums and dyeing hamsters but she is a woman after all. A woman with a desire for beauty. Get her something this year she’ll actually use and don’t forget a big thank you. Happy Mother’s Day to all you gorgeous mummies!

Award-winning Adele dazzles at the Grammy's

Adele looked flutteringly fabulous as she scooped up 6 Grammy awards this weekend.

The pop diva glowed at the ceremony held in Los Angeles, in her figure hugging black dress but here at Blinc we couldn't help but notice her flawless make up. Adele's eyes sure stood out as she posed for pictures on the red carpet. We love her simple simple eye make up with statement lashes.

At Blinc HQ we have the perfect products to achieve Adele's fluttery lashes.

Prep your lashes with the Blinc lash primer (rrp £12.80), it conditions, strengthens and volumises lashes creating a base coat around them.

Then add a stroke of Blinc mascara (rrp £18.50) we recommend using black if you want to resemble Adele's look, but if you want to change it up a little you can choose from dark blue, medium brown, dark green, dark purple and dark brown.

Blinc allows you tube your lashes rather than paint them. For a simple everyday look apply one coat, but for full-on glamour puss eyes lather up and watch your lashes transform.

If like Adele your off to an emotional event and want to save yourself the dismay of panda eyes, you have no need to worry as Blinc mascara is water-resistant. Just use a little warm water and pressure to remove of the mascara.

Get your Blinc on with our innovative mascara and enjoy lashes which don't clump or smudge.

What the magazines say...

So according to Cosmopolitan’s Christmas Gift Guide this month Chrimbo of 2011 is all about, sparkle, indulgence and opulence. Reveal follows suit with profiling the ‘loud mouth’ bright colours and lashings of glitter. Grazia claims it is all about Disco and pearlised effects. The good news is make-up is back and back with vengeance. Fashion seems to take us on strolls down the ‘no make-up’ path but we always seem to arrive back to the brilliant all encompassing love affair with the trusted war paint. Thankfully no matter what your style, here at Blinc we seem to work for everyone, now not that we want to boast or anything, OK well maybe just a little but from what we can gather every woman wants high performing products that are easy to use and that is what we do and have been doing for years.

Grazia claim that in the year 2011 more mascaras were launched than ever before meaning the market is completely saturated with more mascaras than you can poke a lash comb at. Strangely for us Blinc mascara featured in the first issue of Grazia magazine six years ago when it was making waves in the industry for being the first ‘weekly glossy’. Blinc has been much loved amongst beauty editors and a firm favourite of Grazia magazine ever since. So considering the mascara market is at full force we were thrilled to know Grazia still considers Blinc at the forefront, a leader in the current offering of mascaras. We suppose it is because nobody has ever improved on our formula. It is still unique, revolutionary and high performing. Whilst many international cosmetic houses have attempted to create a ‘tube’ mascara formula none of them have succeeded.

So if you have never tried the famed, iconic and cult Blinc mascara we challenge you to give it a shot. So whether you go in for Reveal’s glitter or Grazia’s disco, one thing is certain you surely desire a high performing product that is easy to use. After six years of being Grazia’s favourite we are pretty chuffed to still be the best.

Much Love the Blinc Team xxx

Welcome to a series of makeup mastery guides by blinc.

So that you get the most from your cosmetics, whether its blinc or any other brand, we have put together a series of guides that will help you get the best results, stay healthy and have your cosmetics stay usable to the last drop.

Naturally enough we start with the does and don’ts of mascara, simply because like so many well known cosmetic brands, blinc launched its own range with its unique and highly respected waterproof tubing mascara. Besides, mascara is one of the oldest forms of makeup, and for a good reason; it’s an easy way to give your eyes a dramatic. It’s an essential part of the makeup routine.

Mastering the Art of Mascara Application

Applying mascara is very straightforward and the following tips should help you create a clean and professional look every time.

Increase your eye appeal by curling your lashes. Using an eyelash curler before applying mascara can make your eyes seem bigger and your lashes appear longer. For years traditional scissor style curlers were the only way to achieve this but the recent invention of heated eyelash curlers has given us an alternative to the hazards of those fiendish contraptions. If you want to avoid broken or damaged lashes or pinched eyelids, definitely try heated eyelash curlers blinc has one that has gained awards. The whole process is quick, painless and totally safe. Always use a heated lash curler before applying blinc mascara to avoid lashes clumping together. They can be used after applying ordinary mascara but be sure to clean the head after each use to maintain its performance.

Avoid the urge to pump you wand into your mascara. Many of us are guilty of pumping the mascara brush in its tube in the belief that we will get better brush loading, but this actually forces air into the tube which causes mascara to dry up quickly. Your mascara wand should be loaded with mascara whilst unscrewing from the tube. If the mascara wand looks to heavily loaded with mascara, simply wipe the tip of the wand on a towel or a piece of tissue before starting your application.

Apply mascara evenly and lightly to the upper lashes first. Always apply blinc to dry clean lashes that are free from oils, grease or face creams. Holding the mascara wand horizontally, gently brush your lashes from the base outwards, starting at the outside of the eye and gradually moving inward toward your nose. Rotate the wand with each stroke to maximise coverage and prevent clumping when using traditional paint based mascara. Blinc mascara will flow round each lash in its liquid state and should only be worked whilst wet. If your lashes are fine or very long they may cling together if the brush is too heavily loaded with mascara. If this happens, draw the brush over the edge of the tube to reduce the amount of mascara on the brush and apply as sparingly as possible. Thicker lengthened lashes are best achieved using blincs new lash primer with a coat of blinc over the top to seal the look. Traditional paint based mascara should only be applied to the underside of your upper lashes, as a coat to both top and bottom will give your lashes a heavy look. Thickly applied mascara is fine for the stage but not so great up close!

On the lower lashes, hold the wand lightly and rotate to coat the lashes evenly. Be careful here, blinc is fine for these lashes whether it’s wet or dry but this is where traditional mascara is most likely to run if these lashes get wet. Tears, watery eyes or rain are their undoing.

Check your eyes for mascara smudges and smears. Any accidental smudges can be cleaned using a cotton bud – moistened with tap water for blinc or make up remover for others.

Eyelash combs can be used to separate your lashes but this must be done whilst blinc is still wet. Keep your lash comb clean washing it with warm soapy water and wiping it clean with surgical spirits on a makeup pad. Surgical spirits is available from most chemists. blinc will be introducing its own lash comb this year.

The most important rule you should stick to is: don't apply too much mascara! If you like big lashes and you want the benefits of blincs reliable performance we suggest applying a coat or two of blinc lash primer This builds length and volume fast but the same rules apply to blinc primer as for paint based mascara. Don’t load the brush too heavily and apply several coats, allowing each to dry before re-coating. Then apply a single coat of your colour choice of blinc mascara over the top.

Mascara safety tips.

Once your mascara has been opened and used it's important to replace your tube every three months or sooner, if you notice a change in consistency or smell. It’s not worth risking an eye infection which is why sharing is also a definite no, no! When sampling mascara in store, be sure to use disposable wands or better still disposable mini samples like the one supplied by blinc. If your not sure whether the instore tester mascara has been kept hygienically (frankly if it’s not new when you test it, the risk is high) apply a coat to the back of your hand to check colour and performance.

We hope you found this helpful. Any feedback would be welcome. Other guides will include changeing your eye makeup look, fix makeup mistakes, perfecting the smokey eye look and much more.

Blinc protest

I had to do my family shop last weekend. I don’t know whether you feel the same, but it seems every time we make this tedious trip, the bill gets even bigger. This with other essentials like petrol and utility prices going through the roof; it’s enough to make your blood boil. So why are we Brits such an easy going lot? Apart from the student demonstrations against college fee charges recently (well the young are invariably a hot headed lot, I should know with two teenagers in the family) the most we can muster is a rant at the television. I got to thinking all this over and after catching the news about the brave people of Libya, yet another Arab country making a stand against tyrannical rule, I decided I would stage my own unique protest. I know, we don’t have much to complain about here in the UK compared to those ruled by despots but I do believe we’re being taken for mugs. Or is it my age?
I can hear your cries now, what a hypocrite am I with our own recent price increase. Well in our defence we had to put our prices up just after Christmas because our costs were also up (and I’m not talking my groceries here). I didn’t like doing it and I dare say a lot of you were thinking badly of us, but the reasons were genuine and we’d managed to keep prices fixed over the years.
So here’s my plan; we’re going to drop prices for blinc mascara, eyeliner, and eye shadow phase one to £15.40 for the rest of February and we’ll offer free shipping on any orders over £15.
Action speaks louder than words, so support our protest by getting stocked up on blinc before the authorities come knocking.
Register your protest, leave a comment.
